From the Detroit News

I met Randy in 1982 when i was 26 and had moved to metro Detroit. He was 30, still single, and the hottest handsomest guy id ever met! He was almost a scratch golfer by then, member of Western Golf and Country Club, owned a nice home adjacent, had a good job, was fun-loving, loved the Eagles and his cowboy boots.  We were madly in love and inseparable for the next 5 years but eventually parted ways. I last spoke to him in 1992 when i was engaged to be  married and  we wished each other well. I learned of his death only by chance many years after it happened. To say i was shocked and saddened is putting it mildly. RIP Randy. Only the good die young.

After finding out today that my good friend Leo Garrett passed a year ago, I went through all of the memorials.  So many good people have died young such as Randy at age 52 - wow, what a surprise. I met Randy while playing Little League baseball where he was a great pitcher.  We continued playing baseball together in junior high and then at Redford Union when we also played summer ball for Coach Atkins. During summer ball, Randy worked landscaping and would go stratight to the games with his arms completely covered with dirt. I also recall that Randy loved snow skiing and he was tight end on the RU football team.  The last time that I saw Randy was at the 20-year reunion, and we enjoyed talking about the good old days.  Randy was a fun loving guy and I enjoyed being around him. He will be greatly missed. Tim Fox

Randy was one of the first people i met when I transitioned from Pearson Jr. HS to RU in 10th grade in 1967 - he was in Miss Meldrum's English class with me - he was really into skiing and that was the first time I ever heard of Stein Ericksson who was his favorite skier along with a "new" guy named Jean Claude-Killy - Randy and I played football for RU and I believe he was either a tight end or receiver because of his height and athleticism - he was truly a very nice guy when you got to know him - I remember that he was tight with Victor Corts.
